Why?

What many students don’t know is that a lot of the Year 11 Maths content is actually comprised of much of the Year 10 content. Many students think that if they start focusing in Year 11 & 12, things will miraculously turn upwards and that a 99 ATAR will be a sure thing. The truth is, many students don’t realise that performing in Year 11 & 12 is actually based on the content knowledge and work ethic built in Year 10.

At Chalkwall, one of the aims of our Year 10 program is to pave the road to a working culture that is based on consistent effort, routine and balance. Our Math Tutoring program at Chalkwall are focused on strengthening students’ core skills and topics, especially those to be used in Year 11 & 12.

How the program works?

The first thing we like to tackle in our classes are students’ individual school problems. From there we move on to teaching students Maths content while revising previously taught concepts.

Weekly lessons are aimed at making students sharper. This helps increase their confidence when it comes to more complex Maths topics.

Our goal is not to train students to simply memorise Maths techniques. Rather, we aim for students to understand Maths content and be able to think about the problems and find solutions comfortably on their own. In turn, this will help them become more confident in exams which will ultimately improve their performance.

Weekly homework tasks, revision sets, regular topic exams and major Half Yearly and Yearly exams also help ensure that students remain consistent and on task.

This is why we ensure that all our Educators have exceptional content knowledge, great delivery techniques and a positive attitude. In addition, our regular assessment of the performance of our teachers help us maintain our top quality educational programs.

Our Mathematics Educators

Our Maths Educators are sharp and very well versed in mathematical content areas. Working together, our instructors have developed strategies on how to best teach students content as well as how to help keep them motivated and consistent.

Students Receive

Homework

Homework is distributed weekly ensuring students practice the skills learnt in class. It is collected and marked on a weekly basis then returned to the student. This enables teachers to assess their students’ level of understanding and focus on weaknesses.

Assessments

Informal assessments are carried out during class where teachers observe students’ level of progress through class work and give written and verbal feedback. Students are also tested at the end of each topic.

Students are given two formal exams at the end of Term 1 and Term 3 and feedback is provided to parents/guardians. These results are used to determine areas of need and become a focal point for further learning.

Resources

Students are provided with a class workbook each term that covers all the content of the term. Students also receive revision booklets and past exam packages.

Tracking

Student attendance, homework completion and understanding of content taught is recorded on a weekly basis for tracking purposes.
