Why?

English is one of the most important subjects a student will ever study. Due to its inclusion as a compulsory component of the HSC, it has become central to the success of any student.

The Year 11 English program will strengthen the ability of students to express, communicate, create and feel, not only to succeed in their HSC but to excel in the path they choose to embark on after school and it will continue to support them for the rest of their lives.

How the Program Works?

Our course is designed to give you a helping hand in Year 11 and a head start in Year 12 by focusing on the core skills required to complete the HSC course – text analysis and answering short answer questions, creative writing and extended response writing.

Each student is provided with the same core information, but the delivery is tailored to suit the individual needs of the student. Where the content studied at school differs from that being taught at Chalkwall, your educator will be there to assist you both inside and outside the classroom to reach, achieve and surpass your dreams of success.

Quality Education

Our students are not the only ones we assess to measure growth. We believe that only great teachers can build great students. This is why we ensure that all our Educators have exceptional content knowledge, great delivery techniques and a positive attitude. In addition, our regular assessment of the performance of our teachers help us maintain our top quality educational programs.

Our English Educators

Although the classics of English literature are read and adored by older audiences, students often lose touch of the importance of English because of their lack of connection to these texts.

The new English syllabus provides students with a vibrant array of texts, from movies to internet websites, to analyse and interpret. It aimed to revive the vitality of English, but for some reason many students still view English in much the same light.

Chalkwall is here to change that attitude. English is truly about enjoying the experience and learning from the impact it has. The best essays, speeches and stories are written when students enjoy the subject matter, are motivated to pursue bold ideas and courageous enough to express themselves. Chalkwall aims to revive English as the living wild beast that students will relish in riding and taming.

Our teachers seek to motivate and inspire our students to take a different view, to challenge the normal and strive to new heights. English is about understanding the human mind and spirit, and how it shapes and colours our world.

Students Receive

Homework

We believe wholeheartedly in quality over quantity. We also understand that you have other subjects and can’t be bogged down in just one subject all the time. A student who writes 10 great essays will be more adequately prepared for an exam than a student who writes 50 weak essays. We work on producing the best quality work.

It should be noted that each student should prepare themselves to dedicate at least two hours of each week for revision of past content. This would include the work provided by Chalkwall.

Assessments

Informal assessments are carried out during class where teachers observe students’ level of progress through class work and give written and verbal feedback. Students are also tested at the end of each module.

Students are given formal Half Yearly, Yearly and Trial exams and feedback is provided to the student. These results are used to determine areas of need and become a focal point for further learning.

Resources

Students are provided with class booklets that target core skills, stimuli they may use for answering questions and extra practice and also practice questions.

A student may also request for resources for a specific text they may be studying at school.

Tracking

Student attendance, homework completion and understanding of content taught is recorded on a weekly basis for tracking purposes.
